Research
• Study of the mass spectral behavior of organometallic compounds
under electron impact.
• Development of mathematical methods to increase the structural
information obtainable from the electron impact mass spectra of
organic compounds.
• Classification and structural elucidation of organic compounds:
antibiotics, alkaloids, nucleosides, nucleotides, steroids, amino
acids, carbohydrates and various heterocyclics.
• Investigation of in vivo metabolites of candidate drugs
(antiflammatories, tranquilizers etc.) in rat, dog and monkey. Study
on pulmonary and IP metabolic process of naphthalene in mice.
• Identification of drug decomposition products and participation
in method development to increase the stability of drug preparations.
• Development of analytical techniques for the trace level
quantification of antineoplastic and antiviral drugs in blood and
other body fluids. Detection, identification, and quantification
of circulating biochemical markers of microorganisms causing opportunistic
infections in immunosuppressed cancer and AIDS patients. Mass spectrometry-mass
spectrometry (MS/MS) studies on the decomposition, structure, and
potential metabolites of antineoplastic agents (plant alkaloids).
• Mass spectral sequencing of bioactive peptides, oligo-peptides
and both wild type and recombinant proteins (e.g. hirudin, calcitonin).
• Classification and structural elucidation of noval antifungal
agents.
• Molecular modeling of oligo-peptides, proteins and other
synthetic compounds using molecular mechanics, semi empirical and
ab initio methods for the estimated energy, geometry, conformation,
charge density calculations of molecules, ions and radicals involved
in mass spectrometric investigations using Spartan molecule modeling
software.
• Study of peptide (protein) digest processes, developing
method to decrease the uncertaincy of classification of peptides
based on their digest products.
• Characterize of complex natural products - peptide (protein)
components of venom from scorpion Parabuthus transvaalicus by different
mass spectroscopic methods
• Develop analytical methods for metabolomics’ studies
using human specimens with focus on autism
• Classify and elucidate structures of novel compounds of
biological or synthetic origin, develop analytical methods and provide
technical training and support to members of the UC Davis Superfund
Program Project Group.
